How to play Mimic Party
Four phases, four rounds, about ten minutes. Each phase below uses one of the game's own store screenshots.
One sound, one take. Everyone hears the same sound, records a single imitation on the same countdown, and hears every take played back with a score out of 100. Then the wheel hands out points, multipliers and sabotages.

Round 1 of 4, announce phase: three players on stage, score cards along the top. Phase 1 · on screen as ANNOUNCE
The sound drops
One reference sound plays for the whole table at the same moment. It could be an animal, a machine, a voice or a noise nobody can name, and you hear it once.

Round 1, recording: a waveform bar with a red playhead under the three players. Phase 2 · on screen as RECORDING
Everyone records at once
One countdown for the whole table, so nobody waits for a turn. There is no retry and no undo: the take you send is the take everyone hears.

Round 1, playback: speaker icons mark the take that is playing. Phase 3 · on screen as PLAYBACK
Playback, then a score out of 100
Takes play one by one while everyone else is muted, and each score appears straight after its take, in front of the table.

Round 3, the wheel mid-spin; the caption offers ten points on the next imitation. Phase 4 · on screen as WHEEL
The wheel decides
Before the next sound, the wheel hands out points, multipliers and sabotages. Then a new round starts.
The wheel and the five sabotages
Between rounds the wheel spins once, for everyone at the same time. It lands on one of three kinds of result: points, multipliers, sabotages. A sabotage is aimed: whoever draws it picks the victim. The victim only finds out who aimed at them when their next take plays. A sabotage also costs the victim points.
| Sabotage | What the table hears |
|---|---|
| Saturation | The victim's next take plays back distorted. |
| Echo | The next take plays back with an echo. |
| Pitch shift | The next take plays back shifted up or down. |
| Chopped audio | The next take plays back cut into pieces. |
| Swapped for a fart | The take is replaced outright by a garbage sound, which the store and FoliesApp both name as a fart. |
Before your first game
- A microphone is required. Headphones are strongly recommended to keep the game audio out of your microphone. If the game does not hear you, start with the mic troubleshooting checklist.
- Everyone needs the same sound pack. Pick one from the sound pack browser and send the link around before you open a lobby.
- Voice chat is always on, except during a take. The table goes quiet while each take plays and opens again for the reaction.
- Player count: FoliesApp says 1 to 5 players, online. The requirements notes on the same Steam page say “Online multiplayer only (2-5 players)”; the multiplayer page has both lines side by side.

Questions
- How many rounds are in a game of Mimic Party?
- Four. FoliesApp puts a game at about ten minutes, which it describes as roughly four rounds, and the in-game counter reads ROUND 1 / 4 through ROUND 4 / 4.
- Can I redo a take?
- No. Each round you get one take with no retry and no undo, and that take is what everyone hears.
- Do I need a microphone?
- Yes. The whole game is played with your voice. Headphones are strongly recommended so the game's audio does not leak into your take.
- Who decides the sabotage target?
- The player whose wheel spin lands on a sabotage picks the victim. The victim only finds out who it was when their next take plays.
